Education through Entertainment is one of
the most effective vehicles of learning.
The 'Edge Movie' documents with exquisite photography the
inconceivably ancient Blue Mountains wilderness and humanity's
attempts to manage and conserve this rare natural heritage.
It examines the fragile nature of the habitats of the native
animals and the rich nursery the wilderness provides for
Australian native plants. In particular it takes students
on a journey to the secret location of the Wollemi
pine - trees, which it is believed, have been extinct
for over 60 million years.
The movie also explores the impact of early white settlement
and exploration of the region. The Giant Screen enables
students to enjoy a 'virtual ride' down inaccessible gorges,
abseil down cliff faces and enter into the dark mysterious
world of the limestone caves.
As an educational excursion the 'Edge Movie' offers a unique
opportunity for teachers to provide a superb visual vehicle
with highly relevant curriculum material. The film is suitable
for a variety of students and deals with issues from a wide
range of subjects - at both primary and secondary levels.
